- Today we will finish up our lesson on the rock cycle. Yesterday we learned that igneous rocks are formed when magma solidifies. Who can tell me how sedimentary rocks are formed?
- I remember that they are formed when igneous rocks are weathered down. The sediments smush together to create the sedimentary rock.
- They can also be formed when igneous rocks go through the erosion process!
- Good job! The process of the sediments solidifying is called deposition or cementation. Let's move on to the last type of rock that we need to cover, which is the metamorphic rock. Does anyone know how these may be formed?
- Are metamorphic rocks made from igneous rocks?
- Yes! When heat and pressure are added to igneous rocks, they change into metamorphic rocks!
