  • Three Servants Given Talents
  • Using The Talents
  • The First Servant
  • A wealthy man going on a journey abroad, splits his property and gives his servants talents of money. To the first servant he gives 5 talents, to the second servant 2 talents and to the last servant 1 talent.
  • The Second Servant
  • Once the man left, the servants went to invest for more talents. The first servant that received 5 talents made 5 more, the second servant that received 2 talents made 2 more, and the last servant that had 1 talent buried it to keep it safe.
  • The Last Servant
  • Now, after a long time of the master being away, he returned. The servant who had received 5 talents went up to his master with 5 more and said: Sir, you have entrusted me with 5 talents; here are 5 more that I have made. His master said to him, Well done, good and faithful servant; you have shown you can be faithful in small things, so I will trust you with greater; come and join in your master's happiness.
  • The Master's Response
  • Next, the second servant who had received 2 talents came forward to his master and said: Sir, you entrusted me with 2 talents; here are 2 more that I have made. His master said to him, Well done good and faithful servant; you have shown you can be faithful in small things, so I will trust you with greater; come and join in your master's happiness.
  • Finally, the last servant who had received 1 talent went up to his master and said: Sir, I had heard you were a hard man, reaping where you had not sown and gathering where you have not scattered; so I was afraid, and I went off and hide you talent in the ground. Here it is; it was yours, you have it back.
  • His master replied: You wicked and lazy servant! So you knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered? Well then, you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and on my return I would have recovered my capital with interest. So now, your money will be taken from you and given to the man with 5 talents. For to everyone who has will be given more, and he will have more than enough; but from the man who has not, even what he has will be taken away. You are a good-for-nothing servant, and you will be thrown into the dark, where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.
