- In the clearing of the woods, the rabbits, frogs, squirrels, birds, fish and porcupines all lived in peace. Until the Terrible Things came.
- The Terrible Things caught the birds with their net and are taking them away. Little Rabbit wondered why they took the birds. The truth is the Terrible Things don't need a reason.
- We have come for every creature with feathers.
- AHH!
- But why?
- Those birds were always noisy.
- .
- The Terrible Things captured the squirrels. Little Rabbit asked why the Terrible Things took them away. And once again, the Terrible Things don't need a reason.
- We have come for every creature with bushy tails.
- AHH!
- Those squirrels were greedy.
- But why?
- The Terrible Things carried away the fish and frogs they caught. For the third time, Little Rabbit asked why. The Terrible Things don't need a reason.
- We have come for every creature that swims.
- AHH!
- They never talked to any of us.
- But why?
- The Terrible Things took the all the porcupines. This time Little Rabbit knew the Terrible Things didn't need a reason.
- We have come for every creature that sprouts quills.
- AHH!
- I miss everyone. And we should move. What if they come back for us?
- It can't happen to us. We are white rabbits.
