  • One day Odysseus fell asleep, and Eurylochus convinced the men to eat the Cattle of the Sun: it's better to die at sea from the wrath of the gods, he said, than to die of hunger. Odysseus woke up to find that the men had broken their oaths and killed some cattle. The roles of Odysseus and Eurylochus are reversed

  • The Lotus Eaters are a mystery people that reside on a little island in the Odyssey. They eat lotus plants on a regular basis, which makes them happy all the time. They have lost any feeling of urgency as a result of their way of life. Odysseus and his crew spend some time on the Lotus Eaters' island.
  • The Sirens
  • It is the son of Poseidon, the Cyclops Polyphemus, who returns to the cave. At first, Polyphemus is friendly, but he quickly becomes antagonistic. He immediately devours two of Odysseus' soldiers and imprisons the others in his cave for future meals.

  • The land of the dead is a dark place where spirits dwell after they have departed from their bodies. It is ruled by Hades, The god of the Dead. When people needed to talk to spirits, they needed to make a blood sacrifice.
  • Sirens are beautiful women of the sea, who sing songs that hypnotize or lure and trick men into shipwrecking their boats on rocky shores because they follow the irresistible songs. Odysseus instructs his crew to tie him to the mast, telling them to ignore whatever he may say while under the sway of the Siren’s song.

  • Scylla is a six-headed monster who, when ships pass, swallow one sailor for each head. Charybdis is an enormous whirlpool that threatens to swallow the entire ship. As instructed by Circe, Odysseus holds his course tight against the cliffs of Scylla’s lair.
