Storyboard Text

  • This line is telling the audience not to mourn for the author whenever he passes. It builds the theme of moving on by telling the reader not to grieve. This is important as it an explicit way of saying it. The speaker is speaking to a lover after their death.
  • No longer mourn for me when I am dead
  • This line is saying how the speaker has left the vile world. He has been taken to a new place with no more vile "worms". The world he was once in is full of vile "worms" (people) and that's where they dwell. This fits with the theme of moving on because he wants to remind his lover that he is in a better place now. It's important because its showing that he is in a better place than before.
  • From this vile world with vildest worms to dwell
  • The speaker makes use of an apostrophe. The use of an apostrophe helps the relatability of the poem. Since there is no direct name of who this poem is towards it helps the reader imagine the poem is directed towards them. A good point in the poem where the reader can best relate to is, "No longer mourn for me when I am dead," (line 1). Since it opens up with an apostrophe the reader can better relate to it.
  • The turn appears in line 12 of the sonnet. This turn is to shift to poem and to remind youth to not grieve for the speaker. Earlier in the poem he tells the youth to not even "rehearse" or to say his name. Before the turn the speaker states the same thing. He states the reader should move on from him. The turn just reinstates that idea.
  • This is line 12 of the poem which is the turn of the poem. This line is telling the reader to let their love decay as the speakers body is decaying in the ground. Although a morbid line it is important as it reinstates the theme of moving on.
  • But let your love even with my life decay
  • This line is important because it is showing the consequences of what will happen if the speaker is remembered after death. If the speaker is remembered after death then the speaker will be used to control the the audience or the youth. It further proves why it is better to move on. The big theme for this poem is moving on is better than not.
  • And mock you with me after I am gone.
