- Emilio Aguinaldo revolting against American rule. The start of the American Pilipino War. death of over 4,200 American and over 20,000 Filipino combatants. As many as 200,000 Filipino civilians died from violence, famine, and disease.
- Foraker Act in motion. Puerto Rico is now a protectorate of the United States. The US helped Puerto Rico help set up the first civil government in Puerto Rico.
- The Open Door Policy being established. It called for protection of equal privileges for all countries trading with China and the support of Chinese territorial and administrative integrity.
- There will be equal opportunity for everyone to trade with China and we'll all respect China's territory
