This is probably a DDos attack, Distributed denial of service, and it's hard to detect since it appears like every day regular internet traffic.

It flooded the server with a lot of bogus requests forms, from bots. Bots are devices the attacker uses to do a Ddos attack. Imagine getting 1000 prank calls mixed in with real calls.

So how can we stop it?

We can use a black hole route to direct all traffic to the black hole, but that takes in the good and the bad, so that's like a last resort, also it still makes the server inaccessible.
