- The conflict Is man versus man. General Zaroff relentlessly hunts rainsford through the jungle. “Your brain against mine. Your woodcraft against mine. Your strength on stamina against mine.”
- Foreshadowing
- “We try to be civilized here.” This is an example of irony because how is hunting humans civilized? Even when there is no hunting going on, the island is chaotic and not civilized.
- Climax
- The mood at presented at the start is very dark and eeriel. “Do you think we passed the island yet?” “I can’t tell in the dark” “This place has a reputation- a bad one”
- Resolution
- Zaroff and rainsford are having a conversation at supper. When rainsford asks Zaroff if he hunts case buffalo. Zaroff says “No, I hunt a most dangerous game.” Revealing that he hunts men.
- The climax is when rainsford escapes Zaroff and jumps off the cliff. Upon hearing clouds close in against him he “leaped far out to sea.” Indicating that he had escaped.
- Rainsford kills Zaroff and sleeping in his bed. “He had never slept in a better bed, rainsford decided.”
