Storyboard Text

  • Hello, Mozart, Welcome home! It’s good to see you again. I’m glad you came home for a few days.
  • Hello, Maria Anna.
  • Yes, it really is only a few days. I must get back to Vienna soon, you know. Is father home?
  • Not yet, he’s with a student. He should be back soon. Come, let’s go into the library.
  • How have you been in Vienna?
  • Vienna is as it always is. I’ve been getting some commissions, however I need more new clothes and a new carriage, so I’d like to get some better paying commissions.
  • I have a concert coming up in 4 days though which is why I need to get back to Vienna. How has father been treating you? Still trying to get you married off?
  • Yes, yes, you know how he is. He insists I stop playing publicly and find a suitable husband and settle down.
  • I tell him I don’t love any man of my acquaintance but he doesn’t seem to care. It’s quite unfair that he doesn’t bother you about marriage.
  • Yes well, I’m rather too busy for all that right now, I’m afraid. I’ve been working on a special composition. Perhaps when I’ve completed it, you’d play it with me?
  • Yes, of course I’ll play it. I still say it’s unfair that you can simply say you’re too busy for marriage and it’s accepted. I really wish father wouldn’t find my marriage to be such a priority. But alas, there’s nothing to be done about it.
  • It is my lot in life, to withdraw from the public eye, stop performing and find a husband. You however, get to keep composing and performing and gaining notoriety. Are you enjoying it all?
  • Sometimes I am. It’s hard to gain notoriety in Vienna though, as you know. Sometimes my compositions are liked and popularized but sometimes it seems people don’t think they’re any good.
  • But such is the price I pay to be a composer. I just want to write something that moves people and leaves a mark.
  • And you will, to be sure! You know you’re the best composer I know, so you’ll write something that impresses everyone.
  • Don’t worry, everything will work out and you’ll be just fine. I do believe I hear father coming in. Come Mozart, let’s go see. He’ll be glad to see you.
