- Grendel has found Hrothgar and his men celebrating in Herot and is angered by this. During the night he goes to Herot and takes men and eats them. This continues on for 12 years because no one is able to stop him. Everyone is scared of him because the only one that lives are the ones that run.
- The Battle With Grendel's Mother

- Beowulf has heard about Grendel terrorizing Krothgar and his Kingdom. He feels that it is his duty to go and save Hrothgar and the Danes. So he leaves the land of the Geats with fourteen of the best men and heads for Herot. When he first arrives the Danes are wary of him but once they realize he's here to save the day they allow him to come.

- Beowulf has devised a master plan to pretend to be a sleeping man when Grendel comes for the night. Grendel falls for it when he goes to pick up a second man. Beowulf fights Grendel with his bare hands and rips off Grendel's arm. Grendel flees to his lair where he dies. Beowulf hangs Grendels arm like a trophy from the cielilng.
- The Spoils
- Grendel's mother is unhappy about her son's death and wants her revenge. She gets Beowulf to her lair and thy battle. With the assistance of a giant's sword, he is able to decapitate Grendel's mother. While down there he finds Grendel's dead body and takes his head off as well. He then brings the head up to show off his new treasure.
- Beowulf is weakening but he has one last battle to fight, the dragon. The dragon is much stronger than him now so he goes into this battle with weapons and shields. In the end, he is able to kill the dragon. He suffers detrimental injuries. His only loyal follower Wiglaf comes to his aid after the fight.

- Beowulf's dying wish to Wiglaf was to get the treasures the dragon was guarding and put them into a tower in his honor. Wiglaf does just that. He gets all the rotting treasure that has gone untouched from the dragon's lair. Wiglaf watches Beowulf take his last breath. They build a great tomb for Beowulf and bury him along with the treasure, never to be touched again.
