  • Driver's EdBy: Caroline B. Cooney
  • "It's no big deal. Nobody's dead."
  • Running into the curb
  • AHHHH!
  • The stop sign
  • STOP
  • The news
  • The book starts off with Remy Marland in driver's ed driving Mr. Fielding. He was a horrifically bad teacher and barley paid attention to his students or to the vehicle. She drove into the concrete divider and Mr. Fielding shrugged it off and stated, "It's no big deal. Nobody's dead."
  • The phone call
  • Remy, Morgan, and Nickie decide to steal a stop sign. Remy was concerned that they would be caught and Morgan liked the rush of adrenaline that it gave him. Morgan used a hacksaw to cut off the stop sign.
  • Telling Mr. Fielding
  • I took the sign
  • As normal, Morgan's parents, Starr (Morgan's sister), and Morgan all sat down to watch the news. His father was a lawyer running for office, so they had to stay up-to-date on events. A few nights after Morgan, Nickie, and Remy took the sign, the news showed a car wreck on the road caused because the stop sign was missing. A mother of a 2-year-old was killed. Her husband was devastated, and the police number showed on-screen.
  • The same night Morgan learned of the car crash, Remy gets a phone call from her friend, Lark. and was told that because they took the stop sign, a young mother named Denise Thompson was killed.
  • After Remy got her driver's licence, she told Mr. Fielding that she took the stop sign. She felt guilty about causing the car crash, and asked him to give her one night to tell her parents what happened.
  • You did what!
