  • Once upon a time, a girl travels to the zoo and she sees their tropical exhibit first. She wonders how high up a parrot is on a palm tree. She knows the angle of inclination between the tree and the ground is 20 degrees. The inclined length of the branch up to the parrot is 5 meters. To calculate the height, she uses sine. She calculates Sin(20)x 5=height. The height of the tree is around 1.7 meters

  • The girl's second stop is to the petting zoo where she sees farm animals playing in their pen. She wants to find the distance between a baby duck and a little sheep. The distance from the feet of the duck to the top of the sheep is 2 meters and the angle of inclination is 40 degrees. So, she uses cosine to calculate the X value.   • The zoo is on the coast and near to the ocean. The girl spots a seal in the distance while she is walking to the next zoo exhibit. The lighthouse is 35 meters tall and the angle of inclination between the seal and lighthouse is 22 degrees. The girl wants to know how far the seal is from the top of the lighthouse, so she uses sine to find out. Sin(22)=35/X ----> 35/Sin(22)=XThe top of the lighthouse is 93.4 meters away from the seal.
