- Katherine Johnson was born in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, in 1918
- Katherine was extremely smart from a young age. By the age of 13 she attended high school on a college campus. At 18 she attended that college and began her profession in math.
- In 1937 she graduated with highest honors and taught at a black public school in Virginia. Soon after she left her job to start a family.
- By 1952 she went back to work after a relative told her about open positions at all-black West Area Computing section at the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics’ (NACA’s). Where her life would change forever and she'll become a famous figure for both women and african americans.
- The year 1958 changed katherines life forever, leading her to her biggest accomplishment. She was able to do some of the math for the soviet satellite sputnik. AFter everything went well she was able to do more projects for NACA that soon became better known as NASA. However she is most proud of the calculations that helped synch Project Apollo’s Lunar Module with the lunar-orbiting Command and Service Modul
- Unfortunately Katherine Johnson has passed away on February 24,2020. Nasa decided to dedicates a building at Nasa after her. The Katherine G. Johnson Computational Research Facility. Her legacy will forever live on.
