  • The French and Indian War was centered around the Ohio River Valley. Everyone wants the fertile land and both French and British claimed it as their own.
  • William Pitt
  • I will give you money if you fight for me.
  • French built Fort Duquesne in the exact spot George Washington wanted to build his fort. He launched a surprise attack and the French retreated and Washington builds Fort Necessity.
  • Fall of Quebec
  • The French had superior Native allies and tactics, they knew the area well. General Edward Braddock had no experience fighting in the forests and tried using European tactics to fight.
  • Aftermath of the War
  • William Pitt became the prime minister of British and made it his job to win the French and Indian War. He encouraged colonists to support and fight in the war and gave them large payments and supplies.
  • Is this a good idea?
  • Quebec was on top of cliffs that overlooked the St. Lawrence River and was easily defendable. The British attacked at night and climbed the cliff and the British won the battle.
  • They'll never figure this out
  • Great Britain increased land holdings and heavy burden of taxes while the French lost virtually all territory in North America. The colonists had debt from war put on themselves through taxes and felt increase in British Crown's control and the Native Americans were left to deal only with the British.
