Lennie and George have a really good friendship. Lennie and George go and do almost everything together. They both care about each other and they will make sure that nothing bad happens to one another.
Companionship
We are not like the other guys we have each other to care about and to look after.
Crooks is lonely because the other guys don't want to be with him. Crooks lives in a room in the barn. You can tell he is lonely because Lennie went to his room one time and he enjoyed having him in his room. Crooks also enjoyed having Candy over.
Barriers
Why are you in here by yourself?
Because those other guys don't want me in their because they don't want to live with a black man
Curley's wife had a dream of being a famous actress. She tells us this when she talk with George. She dreamed of it and she almost made it true according to her.
Powerlessness
I want to tend to the rabbits George, I want to tend the rabbits.
George and Lennie have a good companionship. George and Lennie have a conversation saying that they aren't like everybody else. That they have each other to look after one another and to care for one another. George did everything he could for Lennie and Lennie for George.
During this time period there are a lot of barriers in society. In Mice Of Men we are shown that color can separate people and can decide how you will be treated. Crooks is treated bad because of the color of his skin.
Lennie is a very big and strong guy but he has a mental disorder. Lennie is powerless of because of this disorder. He is basically a man child but he can't help it. He thinks and acts like a child and in Mice Of Men you need to think like a grown person in order to survive.
