The story, Brian's Winter, is a sequel to The Hatchet. In The Hatchet, there's a plane crash, and Brian has to survive until he's rescued at the end. Brian's Winter is an alternate ending, in which Brian doesn't get rescued. The story begins in Brian´s shelter in the Fall, and he realizes that winter will be coming soon.
Climax
Brian realizes he needs to learn how to make hunting materials so he can get food. He also needs to make a good shelter, so he can survive the cold winter.
Falling Action
A bear comes near the shelter and fire, looking for food. Luckily, a skunk is nearby and feels threatened, so it decides to spray the bear. Brian then realizes he needs protection and makes two war bows, a lance, and a bunch of arrows. Brian then starts hunting birds, rabbits, and is catching fish.
Resolution
Although Brian kills a moose which helps him survive part of the winter, the moose meat isn't enough to keep him alive. He is starving and freezing. One morning, he hears a popping noise outside and thinks it's the trees popping because of the cold. Then he realizes it's the sounds of a gunshot and he's not alone in the forest.
He goes outside and he sees a line in the snow. He doesn't know if it's man-made, but he follows it knowing that he's probably not alone in the woods. It leads him to a little hut where some Native Americans are having beaver for dinner. They invite him inside to eat with them.
Brian learns that there is a plane the comes every once in a while to drop off supplies for the family that's living in the forest. After 3 weeks staying with the family, Brian is able to get a ride on the plane back home.
