Storyboard Text

  • The power button clearly says that the robot is switched off
  • OFF
  • The next day, Ally bursts into her bedroom and sees a brand new phone lying on her desk
  • Nora enters her room to find that it has been tidied after continuously being mysteriously messed up
  • An extreme close-up of the power button on the back of the robot to clearly present that the robot is off and couldn’t be the culprit. Bright lighting emphasises it and the music is a low, mysterious thrum.
  • Ally and Nora are re-examining the robot and jump when it moves
  • A medium shot of Ally rushing towards her desk, eyes wide as she beholds what’s positioned on it. The music is pleasant and upbeat and we also hear Ally squealing in delight at her new gift. The lighting is high-key.
  • Ally and Nora glance at each other with expressions of surprise as they realise the robot can move without being turned on
  • A long shot of Nora glancing around her room in pleasant surprise. The lighting highlights the tidy, organised areas of her room and the music is the same as the scene before but louder and more anticipatory.
  • Later on, the two girls are sitting together happily, friends again, with the robot zooming about in the background
  • Determined more than ever that the robot has something to do with all that’s been going on, Ally and Nora are re-examining it together when it suddenly moves. This shot is a medium shot with the robot just visible in the corner and the lighting is low-key. The tense violin music rises as the robot jolts. We can see from the background that they’re in Ally’s bedroom.
  • Another medium shot shows Ally and Nora turning to each other in shock as the robot continues to move and they realise is has a mind of its own. The lighting has abruptly turned high-key and the music is steady. We hear Ally and Nora exclaiming in wonder.
  • A long shot shows Ally and Nora sitting together in Ally’s bedroom, happy that they’ve solved the mystery and discovered that the robot can move by itself and that they changed something in its wiring when they examined it the first time, meaning that it now does good instead of bad. The lighting is soft and natural and we hear the sound of Ally and Nora laughing, the robot making mechanical noises as it zips about behind them, and birdsong from out the window.
