- Oliver Smith lives with his uncle and his aunt after his parents were murdered minutes after Olivers birth. He's lives with his aunt and uncle for 14 years now
- Meeting with Mentor
- One day, Oliver meets a new kid at his school named Jeffrey Jones. Jeffrey becomes a close friend of Oliver and tells him a story, a story that sounded awfully similar to Oliver’s real life. Oliver realizes that this isn't any ordinary story and is set on his way to retrieve the journal that was spoken of in Jeffrey's story.
- Crossing the Threshhold
- Oliver has heard of these stories before, but never suspected that this was true, he paces around the room and tries to forget about the story. He doesn't want to go since he knows the consequence will be devastating if he fails.
- Tests, Allies, Enemies
- His uncle walks into his room and knows whats happening because he overheard him talking to jeffery on the phone. He gives him a pep talk and tell him that he should go.
- Oliver crawls out the window and sets on his journey and leaves behind only a note for his aunt to read since she doesn't know about this situation.
- Oliver walks into the bus and sees his best friend waiting there for him. She tells him that she new about what Jeffery said and that Oliver would leave at night.
