- Joseph tells jack about maddie and how her life is.Joseph and maddie fall in love and impacts joseph posetively.Joseph finds love during a life of trauma.

- Jack runs to the locker room to find Jay on the floor with a bleeding nose; two of Jay's friends are shoving Joseph against the lockers. Joseph signals for Jack to leave, but when Jay gets back onto his feet, Jack shoves him. Jay hits the nearby lockers and falls to the floor again.

- On New Year's Day, Joseph and Jack start to play as they shovel snow, and for the first time, Jack sees Joseph act playfully. At dinner that night, the phone rings. Mr. Brook is calling to tell the Hurds that he has won visitation rights to see Joseph at the Hurd farm.Hurd announcing that they will help him find Jupiter. In the new year, the Hurds learn that Jupiter is in the nearby town of Brunswick, and Joseph runs away to find his daughter.
