- Priests were known as the keepers of knowledge. They learned and taught reading. They also had many roles performing religious ceremonies, instructing sons of nobles, keeping the calendars, studying astronomy and astrology, divining for the king, nobles and commoners and prophecy.

- Maya nobles filled the priesthood, or became government officials, court officers, town rulers, scribes, tribute collectors, military leaders and administrators.

- Merchants and Artisans were important with farming, trade and crafts were also important. These functions were carried out by merchants and artisans. The Maya were accomplished traders, something the artisans and merchants also did as well. They traveled by sea, river, and well- constructed roads to trade with other city-states.
- They were usually orphans, war prisoners, criminals, or the children of slaves. Although they weren't necessarily mistreated by their owners, slaves still had no rights or privileges in Maya society. Basically, a slaves only function in society was to do all of the manual labor. ... Some slaves cared for the children.
- I think in my opinion the merchants and artisans are the best class. They aren't the most privileged but they still have enough privilege, to live by. They don't have to stress about much things since all they do is trade, farm, and craft. They also get to travel a lot.
