Storyboard Text

  • EXPOSITION: After racing along the cliff, Epaphus, upset by his defeat, felt compelled to redeem himself by bringing up his father Zeus, and Phaethon, being the stubborn child that he is, could not ignore this.
  • Your father may be Zeus, but mine is Apollo lord of the Sun.
  • You may have won the race, bur I still have higher authority considering that my father is Zeus.
  • RISING ACTION: Phaethon, feeling his pride was being assaulted when Epaphus revealed stories about his father and their relationship, began fabricating scenarios and exaggerated his bond with his father. He even went so far as to suggest that his father, Apollo, permits him to drive the chariot. Epaphus refuses to believe him without proof after hearing this.
  • I will circle around your house three times as I guide the chariot
  • How will I know it's you and not your father?
  • RISING ACTION: Phaethon is brought to his father's throne after being rescued by his father's sun hawks and asks for a favor. Apollo accepts and swears by the river Styx, forging an unbreakable promise, believing his son to be a saint. Using the promise against his father, Phaethon convinces his father to let him steer the chariot.
  • But father you had an oath by the river Styx and had promised to grant anything I wished.
  • Son, I am pleading please ask for anything else but this!
  • CLIMAX: While leading the chariot, Phaethon decides to go against his father's wishes and bring the chariot closer to Earth in order to send the signal Epaphus and him agreed on.
  • I must give the Signal to Epaphus in order for him or anyone to realize it is I who guides the chariot.
  • FALLING ACTION: Zeus, after hearing all the chaos and deaths had shot a lighting bolt towards Phaethon, killing him instantly.
  • Die, along with your wicked ways!
  • RESOLUTION: Unable to comfort his daughters, Apollo turned them into trees, where their tears turn into sap that is released from the trunk of the tree.
