Storyboard Text

  • In this parable, there lived a man with two sons. One of the sons, Jacob, asks his father for his rightful portion of his riches. Jacob then leaves his father’s farm to go to the city and squander his new inheritance.
  • Father, give me my share of the estate Luke 15:11
  • During his time in the city, he runs into many temptations.
  • He wastes all his father’s money and eventually becomes homeless. Due to this, he is forced to work as a pig farmer.
  • Eventually, Jacob decides to back to his family.
  • I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants. (Luke 15:17-18)
  • When Jacob returns home, he tries to apologize for his horrible choices. However, despite his past wrongdoings, he is welcomed back with celebration!
  • I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ (Luke 15:21)
  • Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ (Luke 15:22-24)
  • His brother is jealous. He does understand why his brother is gifted with such a bountiful celebration, while he is never able to celebrate in such a fashion. However, his father explains that he should be happy!
  • Look! All these years I’ve been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends. But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him! (Luke 15:28-30)
  • You are always with me, and everything I have is yours. But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found. (Luke 15:31)
