Storyboard Text

  • The Earth started as just molten rock, hydrogen and helium.
  • Then, the Earth was covered with volcanos therefore, the temperature of the Earth for very high. These volcanos released 5 gases including nitrogen, water vapour, methane, carbon dioxide and ammonia.
  • However, when these stopped erupting, the temperature of the earth cooled leaving the water vapour to condense which produced the oceans. The carbon dioxide then sank to the sea beds.
  • Then, this carbon dioxide got 'locked up' in the sedimentary rocks and the remaining C02 created algae and bacteria. Therefore, the amount of carbon dioxide decreased further.
  • After this, on land plants formed as they were able to carry out photosynthesis. This then produced oxygen and created the ozone layer which meant that the UV light was no longer too intense for other life to form.
  • As well as the ozone layer, the oxygen released meant that animals to survive and respire. The animals at this time used the carbon dioxide for their shells. However, nowadays the amount of carbon dioxide and oxygen is balanced.
