- We must head home now sir! We haven’t seen land in over a month and will surely starve!
- Please tell the crew to give me 3 more days.
- Christopher Columbus thought he knew a faster way to Asia, by sea. He proposed his idea to the king of Portugal and he said no because they were in the middle of a war. So he went to Portugals rival, Spain. When he went to see the king and queen of Spain, their council had doubts because they didnt have any money.
- Land
- Defeated Columbus was decided to head home, but after he left the royal advisers told the king and queen that they should fund his exploration since it could bring them back riches. So they sent a rider on horse back to retrieve Cristopher so they could discuss in further detail.

- Though he couldn’t find a crew originally a well respected local crew called “La Pinta” helped him set sail August 3rd, 1492. They were sailing for about 10 weeks and were steadily losing hope. They hadn’t seen land for almost 4 weeks! They thought they would starve if they didn’t return home now!

- The land that was spotted wasn’t anywhere near Asia, it was a brand new continent that had the Taino people which Columbus thought were Indians.

- In January 1493, he sailed back to Spain to meet the king and queen believing that he found a faster way to Asia, not knowing that he had found another continent entirely!
- I have found a faster route to Asia!
- Columbus made 3 more voyages to the Americas, never bringing back the riches he promised the king. He also failed to meet the Queens request, after she found out he enslaved some of the Taino people. He died in 1506 thinking he reached Asia.
