- Field hands are slaves that pick cotton. The field hands have to pick 5-7 bales of cotton a year while being under direct control of another slave called a driver. Their job is not easy.
- House slaves are resented by field hands. They can cook, housekeepers, butlers, gardeners, drivers, etc. Their job was easy to manage in their lifestyle.
- Town slaves had many jobs such as carpenters, blacksmiths, hotel cooks, and butlers. Town slaves usually were hired our or for rent. When a town slave was done with their work they would keep a portion of their rent at the end of the job.
