- Thank you for meeting me at the Nutty Hat Café. For the history fair I want to do a presentation on how Iraq became a country, but I don't know how it became a country. Can you help me?
- Beginings
- Of course I can help you. Well Iraq started off as part of the Ottoman Empire up until 1920.
- Why was Mesopotamia broken up?
- Why what happened in 1920?
- World War 1 ended with the Ottoman Empire on the losing side, the Central Powers.
- What happened to Mesopotamia
- Oh! I think I heard about that; the Allied Powers won and the Ottoman Empire got overthrown.
- Yup now your getting it. Then the land was partitioned
- How did Britian and France break up the land
- After World War I the Freshly created Country of Iraq was made up of three Colonies the Kurdish Mosul, the Sunni Baghdad, and the Shia Basra. The British put these ethnically and religiously separated provinces together into one country this caused conflict
- But how did Iraq get partitioned
- How did Britian and France govern the land
- Well with San Remo Agreement, It said that the Ottoman Empire's Arab provinces were assigned by the League of Nations to Great Britain and France to mandate. So they governed the country for them until they could govern themselves.
- How did the land know how to govern themselves
- Land getting Mandated
- The U.K. took control of colonies Iraq, Palestine, and Transjordan, and France took control of Lebanon and Syria.
