- Sulla returns but Marius is dead and out of spite, kills thousands of his supporters in a day Sulla becomes the dictator of Rome until his death Upon Sulla’s death, three men seized power Through bribes and their influence Caesar, Pompey, Crassus were able to determine who got what jobs in Rome

- It would be an honor to marry your daughter
- Pompey: Crassus, you shall have control of Asia Minor, Caesar the army in Gaul, and I shall control Rome
- Caesar: To strengthen the bonds between us I offer you my daughter's hand in marriage.
- Time passes and Crassus goes off to battle and is killedOptimates chose Pompey as their representative and the Senate backed him up. While the people of Rome backed Caesar up as a result of his military conquests in Gaul
- I fear that Caesar’s power and influence is growing too strong. I must stop him before he becomes too powerful.
- (speaking to Messenger)Tell Caesar that I order him to disband his army. He must return to Rome at once.
- One week later
- I shall escape to Greece, I should be safe there from Caesar's wrath.
- Messenger: I have returned, he refused and is currently marching on Rome with his army! It would be prudent to flee Rome, otherwise your death is assured.
