  • Everyone, gather around, the Lottery has begun. Come grab your slip of paper here please.

  • Who got it?
  • Okay everyone, now we must all open our slips at the same time.

  • It's Bill. Bill Hutchinson got it.
  • Oh no! the poor Hutchinson's!
  • On a warm summer day in a small village, little boys prepared a pile of rocks, excited for the day as their parents talked among themselves.
  • Climax
  • You know what you have to do Bill
  • The lottery begins, so the head of families line up to collect their slip on behalf of their family, as the rest of the town quickly gathers
  • Falling Action
  • Who has the slip with the black dot?
  • The tension builds all through the crowd as they anxiously open their slips, searching for the one with the black circle on it.
  • Resolution
  • Whew! We got a blank one honey!
  • It isn't fair, It isn't right!
  • I hope Nancy doesn't get it.
  • The Hutchinson family walks to the front where they each take out their own slip of paper out of the old, battered, black box.
  • After they all have their papers, they each unfold them with shaking hands to reveal that Tessie Hutchinson, the mother, has the paper with the black dot.
  • This isn't fair,
  • Yay! We are safe!
  • As Tessie pleads for her life, the people of the village start throwing rocks at her from the pile the boys had made earlier that day. They all stone Tessie Hutchinson, because it is their tradition.
