Seven Themes of Catholic Social Teaching
Catholic Social Teaching is handed down to us by the Church. They wrote about this so that as a society we could come together to live lives of holiness even with the challenges we have in our lives. The Church specifically highlighted seven themes that are at the center of CST.
On the board is an explanation of what CST is and what is included in the teachings itself.
Seven Themes of Catholic Social Teaching
1. Life and Dignity of a Human Person2. Call to family, Community, and Participation3. Rights and Responsibilities4. Option for the Poor and Vulnerable5. The Dignity of Work and Rights of Workers6. Solidarity7. Care for God's Creation
The seven themes are as followed
Corporal Works of Mercy
- Feed the Hungry - Give drink to the Thirsty- Shelter the Homeless-Clothe the Naked-Care for the sick- Visit the Imprisoned- Bury the Dead
One way we can put these teaching into action are through what are called Corporal Works of Mercy
I will now move onto the First of the Seven themes of CST, showing what it is and what it means through examples for each theme
Life and Dignity of a Human Person
But my sister in Christ you are worth my time. In the theme of Life and Dignity of a Human Person we are taught everyone is made in the image of God, and are called to respect every living person. Because of your human Dignity given to you by God I still respect you no matter what you have done.
Why did you come visit a person like me? I have done bad things, I am not worth the time
Call to Family, Community, and Participation
Of course son! You just had a very big surgery of course we would come and support you

Dignity of Work and Rights of Workers
we need to speak up against this
Solidarity
We are all one family regardless of race, religious beliefs, or any kind of different background.
Care for God's Creation
Here my friend take some clothes. You have taken good care of this land even given your situation with no home or clothes
You are amazing! Thank you brother, God bless!
Conclusion
To Wrap things up just remember that Catholic Social Teaching is the Church teaching us about certain problems in our community. These teachings are rooted in scripture, the bible, and through the ministry of Jesus Christ. It is a way of living so that we can have good relationships with each other as brother and sister. The biggest ideas to realize is every person has human dignity and we should respect that human dignity. There are ways to put that into action through the Corporal Works of Mercy. Also, that God created us all in his image and that he created everything for us. For that reason we must treat all his creation with respect as well.
By doing a corporal work of mercy you are showing respect for human life and their dignity that use person has. They do so by tending to the physical need of the person. Each of the following themes will have a Corporal Work of Mercy to go with it.
In order to show respect to others and to follow the teachings given to us by the Church you could visit the imprisoned. By doing so you show them they are worth respect because they have Human Dignity. Can you recall a time you have show someone else respect by honoring their Human Dignity?
Inspirations
God created all of us to be social, meaning support one another and be around other people. In the Church, we are called to support the family as much as we can. By doing that we can help build our community, especially by helping people who are the most vulnerable. An example of helping someone who is vulnerable is visiting the sick, as shown above Have you ever visited a sick person that was in your family? how did it make them feel?
Prayers
MOM! DAD! You guys actually came to visit me in the hospital!
In the picture above are a group of people gathered because their friend passed away because their work made them work in harmful conditions. Every person has the right to good working conditions and good pay. By visiting the dead we can support others in the grieving stages, and visit the ones we love. What would you do if you saw someone working somewhere they could get hurt?
I am sorry for your loss. He was an amazing person, too bad his work did not have the right rules and laws.
We must remember that God created each and everyone of us in his image. By doing so we are all brothers and sisters in Christ. We must treat each other with respect and remember to support one another. One way we can support each other is give water to people who might be thirsty. What are some other ways we can show our support to one another?
When we care for God's creation it means to care for everything that God has created. The earth, and even people are included in this list. God created the Earth for us and we are called to be Shepherd of his land, meaning to take care of it. In order to take care of creating we can help others by clothing the naked, or even taking care of the land. How are some ways you can take care of the earth?
How can you continue to live out the teachings from CST in your every day life?
Now you are a pro at Catholic Social Teaching! Go live it out on your everyday life. See you later friend! God bless.
