Storyboard Text

  • Geological time scale is a large scale timeline which we can say is the crowning glory of geology and natural sciences. It provides us information about what organisms existed in certain time periods.
  • It also provides us insight on how the environment and the organisms living in it changed as time passed by. Geological time scales or events are organized in Eons, Eras, Periods, and Epochs.
  • The eras of the geological time scales from most recent to oldest are: cenozoic, mesozoic, and paleozoic. All of these are under the phanerozoic eon.
  • Since the Cenozoic era is the most recent and contains the results of millions of years of evolution from earlier eras, it is also known as the new life epoch. Since animals flourished during this time, including the most advanced of them all, us humans, the Cenozoic is frequently referred to as the age of mammals.
  • Since it falls between the earliest and the most recent eras, the Mesozoic era is referred to as the middle era. The term age of dinosaurs refers to this period when dinosaurs and other huge reptiles flourished.
  • Paleozoic era and also known as the old age. The first four-limbed vertebrates emerged during this era. Trilobytes and the first land plants also emerged during this era, jumpstarting the move from marine to terrestrial life for some organisms.
