Storyboard Text

  • Oh hey there. I was just about to get started on doing some work on convergent evolution. What is convergent evolution you ask? Let me explain it to you
  • Over here we see a dolphin and a shark. They both look and act similar.
  • A dolphin and a shark both have a fin in that back which is the way they both swim. But if we look at how they use it we will notice that the sharks moves side to side and the dolphins moves up and down. This is because in the fin they have a analogous structure.
  • What is an analogous structure? Let me explain it to you.
  • On this side we have a dolphins fin. A dolphin has a spine in its body just like us humans. With how the spine is positioned it makes it that the tail goes up and down.
  • In other words an analogous structure is where they have they same function but not the same motion and not the same structure inside the body
  • And on this side we have a sharks fin. Where a shark has no bones only vertebrates which is cartilage. With how the vertebrates are positioned in the body it makes it that the fin doesn't move up and down like a dolphin.
  • Another thing you might be thinking is that the dolphin and shark are recently related. Well here's news to you they actually aren't.
