  • Langston was born on February, 1, 1902 in Joplin, Missouri. His parents separated soon after his birth. So, he stayed with his grandmother.

  • Langston was raised by his grandmother until he was 13, then he moved to Lincoln, Illinois. After his parents separated, his father ended up settling in Mexico.

  • Langston Hughes went to elementary school when he was a little boy. He attended schools in Kansas and Illinois, and in elementary school, Hughes was named class poet, although he had never written a poem.
