  • Buddhism was created by Siddhartha Guatama which mean the fulfilment of wishes.He was born into a royal family and lived a life of luxury.He felt material wealth was not the ultimate goal in life, but that happiness and mindfulness was.
  • Finding Answers
  • The Queen's pregnancy lasted 10 months, in the birth there was no blood or water and was painless. A holy man Asita visited and said he'd become a great leader or a holy homeless man.The Prince would go on to grow up in great luxury with all suffering hidden.
  • The Enlightenment
  • As the Prince grew up he got tired of the palace, he decided to leave, he was told to go a specific route so not to see suffering, this failed. This is were he saw the four sights. Old Age, Sickness and a holy homeless man.
  • Teaching and Death
  • After seeing this suffering The Prince could no longer live in luxury. He escaped from the palace and cut his hair as a symbol of the renunciation.He practised mediation for 2 years with 2 masters, he gained nothing from this, he then practised an extreme form of body modification.
  • Siddhartha moved to meditation. Here he was tempted by Mara and his daughters which represented all sensual desires and death, nothing worked. He felt unimaginable joy and enlightenment, at this time he had an insight into the cause of suffering and how to eliminate it. He was then on known to his followers as The Buddha.
  •  The Buddha taught the 4 noble truths:1. Life is suffering. 2. Suffering is caused by craving. 3. Craving can be controlled. 4. Eightfold path eliminates it.He died at 80 of old age, peacefully and mindfully.
