  • I am so tired of getting treated bad around here. I bet I know someone that would appreciate this information
  • WHAT? NO!
  • Mr. Stalin, I have something that you may be interested in. This is the plans for the hydrogen bomb that the United Staes has just made. What do you say we talk business?
  • SEIZE HIM!
  • Carl was tired of being treated terribly and knew his knowledge of the hydrogen bomb could be used somewhere else in the world.
  • Stupid American thought he could fool me, Joseph Stalin. HA HA HA
  • Carl hopped a flight to Russia to show Mr. Stalin how he could get back even with the Americans.
  • Russia, 1953
  • Carl tried to negotiate a deal with Stalin, but you can't negotiate with a communist. Stalin ordered him to be contained and took the folder of information for himself.
  • How did this happen? They were so far behind us.
  • Well Sir, the folder with the information has gone missing and so has private Carl Jenkins. We think he could have leaked the secrets.
  • Carl was beaten down and was forced to give up the folder of information to Stalin with no return. Stalin of course kept him alive as prisoner until he knew the bomb would work.
  • How could you let this happen Captain?
  • In 1953, the Russians had their first successful test of the hydrogen bomb and were now back even with the United Staes in terms of nuclear weapons.
  • The only way to handle this problem is with massive retaliation, Captain.
  • With the Russians figuring out the secret to the new bomb this put America in more danger as the playing fields were even again.
  • The FCDA will start to prepare citizens for the possibility of a nuclear attack on our country.
  • I told him to put it in the safe and then he just up and disappeared.
  • President Eisenhower announced a policy of "massive retaliation." This meant that the United Staes would respond to any threat with the threat of a nuclear war. This would have been mutually assured destruction (MAD) of both countries.
  • I could not agree more Mr. President. Respond to any threat with the deadliest weapon on the planet
  • As time went on people were still nervous about the possibility of the Russians blowing the United Staes into pieces with the push of a single button. The Federal Civil Defense Administration was going to prepare citizens as that is all that they could do.
  • Mr. President!
  • Should we be afraid?
  • Meanwhile, Carl had escaped the Russians and was headed back to the United States thinking he was safe.
  • When Carl landed, he was instantly put in handcuff and put in the back of the military vehicle to be taken to jail for committing treason
  • Carl was sentenced to life in prison for giving up the secrets to the new bomb to the Russians. The Cold War never really stopped. It is still something that we worry about constantly to this day.
