  • Hello everyone. Today I will talk about history of motion and time study from Shigeo Shingo. A short explanation about him, he was born in 1990 at Saga City, Japan. He graduated form Yamshi Technical College in 1930 and worked for the Taipei Railway Company.

  • While in his career, he developed a lot of concept motion and time study. He was developed Just-In-Time (JIT) and Toyota Production System in 1959. He also developed the zero-defects, poka-yoke and mistake proofing in 1961. In 1970, he came with new development which is Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED) concept.

It have immediate feedback form successive quality checks and self-checks. the poka-yoke is basic idea to implement mistake-proofing devices in assembly line. It target the source defect when ever a defect occurs.

  • Single minute exchange of Dies is develop in order to reduce the fixed cost associated with the setup and changeover of dies. A simple approach to achieving changeover of the dies is separate internal and external setup, convert internal to external setup and streamlining all setup operation..
