  • Welcome to my classroom! Today... SWBAT understand and define UbD!
  • 1. Identify Desired Learning Goals - What is it that I want the students to understand, know, and be able to do?2. Determine Assessment Evidence - How will I know that they know what I want them to know?3. Learning Plan - What do I need to do in the classroom to prepare them for assessment?

  • Think About!What do you think UbD is? Write a prediction and post your sticky note to the board!
  • What are some other advantages of UbD?
  • 1. Unnecessary disruptions in the learning process are eliminated.2. Teachers spend less time planning courses and more time instructing students.
  • What are established goals? Established goals are what the students need to learn and be able to do.
  • You guys had some fantastic ideas on UbD! Good job! I loved one of the responses: UbD can help ensure that curriculum, content, and assessment are aligned with the specific outcomes and transferable skills we seek to teach our students.
  • Let's move on to some of the other parts of UBD!
  • After Established Goals, the next step is Big Ideas or... what understandings are desired about the big ideas of the unit?
  • Performance Tasks: How will the teacher know if the students learned the content? This is where you develop a guide for the students on what to do.
  • Next up... Learning Activities: HOW will the students learn it? What activities will they be completing?
  • Let's take a look at... performance tasks.
