  • excellent question the instillation of pride and inspiration among many black people throughout the diaspora is a legacy that I want to maintain.
  • That is simply amazing. With all of those people supporting you on, I'm sure you felt like you'd accomplished something very remarkable. What legacy do you want to leave for black Americans in the years to come?
  • When I leave this planet, I want to be remembered as a firm advocate of black pride, self-sufficiency, upliftment, empowerment, and equality for all people of colour.
  • Amazing, and how would you like to be remembered when you leave this earth one day?
  • Thank you very much. I am grateful for this opportunity and will be eternally grateful to Dr. Wilson.

  • Well, it's been a pleasure speaking with you and learning more about you, Mr.Garvey. I truly wish you a prosperous life and hope that you continue to thrive for what you believe in and hope to achieve.
  • Of course, as you know, my main goal was to encourage the Black community to be more proud of themselves and their heritage, and I wanted them to be able to return to their African homelands, so I tried unsuccessfully to persuade the government of Liberia in west Africa to grant land to black people from America, which was a setback in my plans to establish a black government free of white colonial rules.
  • Mr. Garvey, please elaborate. What obstacles did you face that prevented you from moving forward with your aspirations?
  • Yes, I was arrested for mail fraud in 1922 for selling equity in a ship that the Black Star Line had not yet purchased. I was convicted in 1923, imprisoned in 1925 after numerous appeals, and subsequently pardoned by President Calvin Coolidge and deported to my home country Jamaica in 1927.
  • fun fact I'm a gospel singer, and when I sing gospel, it's about entrepreneurship and empowerment. I guess you could say gospel was a nice method for me to reach out to the black population in the United States.
  • Wow, I'm sure that was one of your worst setbacks, but enough about that, what are some interesting facts about yourself, and why do people refer to you as the "black angel of success"?
