  • I'm Angel and I'm going to tell you about the Carbon Cycle! It's pretty cool. For me, it's important because it's what I breathe out. Humans breathe in oxygen, and then exhale Carbon Dioxide, putting it into the air for others. I'll pass it to Lily to take it from here!
  • I do the same thing! How cool!
  • Hi! My name is Lily, and the carbon in the air is super important to me! I take in this carbon for photosynthesis. Good thing the humans and animals breathe Carbon Dioxide out, so that I have it to make my own food! I am a major way that Carbon Dioxide leaves the air! Carbon Dioxide also leaves the air as it moves into the ground or oceans, which we'll talk about next!
  • Sometimes the carbon from humans doesn't get back to the air from them breathing! Sometimes they die, or create waste! Both of these things lead to decomposition, which creates fossil fuels. This is how carbon enters the Earth's surface!
  • These decomposed materials either end up in the ground or in oceans! From here, they evaporate into the atmosphere. Then this carbon can go lots of places, like back to plants, like me! Back to you, Angel!
  • Thanks Lily! So as you can see, a huge part of the Carbon Cycle happens through humans, animals, plants, the atmosphere, and the ground! One thing we haven't talked about is how extra carbon is emitted into the air! Humans often create factories and industries, which create extra emissions of Carbon into the air! Let's listen to Dr. Carbon real quick to end with learning why this Carbon Cycle matters to our Earth!
  • Hello everyone! I'm Dr. Carbon and I hear you're learning about the Carbon Cycle. Why is it important you might ask? Because it plays a major role in our Earth's global warming! This cycle determines how much carbon dioxide is in the air! Carbon Dioxide is a greenhouse gas that assists the Earth's air in retaining heat from the sun. So the more carbon, the more heat the Earth retains, which causes global warming! The less carbon there is, less carbon is retained in the air, and the Earth warms less. So, there you have it! The Carbon Cycle. Hope you enjoyed it!
