  • THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION
  • The Worker's Struggle
  • Boy, I sure hate risking life and limb in this here factory. I don't get paid enough to work 14 hours a day. . .
  • Children were used in textile factories operating dangerous machinery that often injured them for life. They worked long hours and got paid a lot less than adults.
  • Over time, the usage of children in the workplace became illegal due to newly enforced labor laws that set a minimum age for work (16+), and prohibited any individual younger than that from working.
  • I declare it now illegal to have children under 16 participating in a working environment from now on!
  • Workers often fell behind financially, but factory owners accumulated wealth off of their work. There was no pay regulation for workers at the time, so factory owners could pay their employees as much as they pleased.
  • As a solution, employees formed "worker unions" which threatened the power and control of factory owners by grouping together and threatening to cease working if working conditions were not fulfilled.
  • General working conditions were also very poor. Many sick people still came into work, and life-threatening injuries were very common. These issues were also resolved through the creation of worker unions, requiring a more tolerable and ethical workspace.
