  • Here we observe an ocean habitat that is home to many. Specifically, we are observing the Atlantic ocean ecosystem. Different species like the Great White shark, common octopus, and clown fish are going about their daily life. But this story isn't about them.
  • Nemo!
  • It's about these guys! They are a family of humpback whales, the youngest one is Jimmy. He has been traveling with his family from tropical breeding grounds to cold feeding grounds for the summer.
  • Hello! I'm Jimmy!
  • Looks like Jimmy and his family aren't the only one out looking for some grub this time of year. Fisherman are setting out for northeastern waters as well for money makers like lobster. These ships run on oil and also have a lot of gear onboard that can be very dangerous to animals like whales.
  • The ship has returned from its voyage, but it didn't return with all it left with. See, the fishermen on the ship decided it would be a good idea to dump some of their gear to help them get home faster by making the ship lighter. This wasn't a good idea because if we go back to Jimmy's journey...
  • ... Jimmy's parents, Darla and George, are no longer with us because they got caught in the fishing gear that the fishermen threw off board during their trip home. They probably got exhausted from trying to free themselves and couldn't make it to the surface to breathe. Little Jimmy now has to leave his parents behind and make his trip alone.
  • NOOOO!!
  • Over 3,000 whales die due to pollution every year. We can't let what happened to Jimmy's parents happen to anymore whales! We should make it so that fisheries have to inventory all of the gear they take on their ship when they depart on a trip and fine them for anything that didn't come back. Another solution could be creating organizations where all they do is send crews to pick up trash out of different parts of the ocean system.
