- Man lost all his money in the stock market, now he is broke.
- If only the ground wasn't so hard boiled I could farm it
- I need the cheapest grub, I haven't got a lot of cheese I took the struggle buggy here
- The stock market crashed and everybody lost their money in it. So they have to start over.
- People are broke through out all of New York and the country in the end of the twenties and early thirties.
- The ground in the great depression was hard and dusty, so it was hard to farm. It got worse with the dust storms.
