equality vs equity

- Hello. I hope you are having a good say! I have a couple of questions about work.
- Thank you! You as well. What are your questions?
- Do you know the difference between Equality and Equity?
- Actually I do! Equality is when everyone is treated the exact same. Equity is when everyone is provided what they need to succeed.
- SO for example to clarify, if two students are eating snack, they both would get the same amount of food.
- That makes sense. That would be an example of Equality right?
- Correct! Then an example of Equity is if you have students with ADHD or another disability, a classroom has flexible seating for those that have a hard time sitting still for a long time.
- That makes sense also! Would people with different heights, picking apples in a tree that have different sizes of ladders be equity too?
- Yes it would! It looks like you get it!
- I have a much better understanding now thank you!
- You are so welcome. It is important to understand the difference of it in a classroom full of students.
