- Barnum comes from a poor family and Charity comes from wealth. They are in love and leave to start a family and life for themselves. Charity's parents don't like their relationship but they move away and follow their dreams.
- Climax Tightrope
- Barnum recruits a bunch of unique people to join his show. He encourages them to be themselves and brings them out of the dark. He forms a circus and begins to get money for his family.
- Falling actionFrom now on
- Barnum's new partner falls in love with one of his actors. She wants to be with him but is scared of what people will say and do. She thinks he'll leave her when he sees how people would treat them.
- ResolutionThe greatest show
- Barnum gets caught in the fame and money and forgets his dream. He puts his show and reputation in front of his family and friends. He leaves his family behind and Charity feels like she is losing him.
- Barnum's wife is upset with him and his circus burns down and collapses. He finds out that he is out of money and he feels depressed. The actors come to him and open his eyes to what the circus meant to them. Barnum apologizes and says he will change throughout the song.
- Barnum gives his circus to his partner so he can prove to his family that he will be there for them. The circus gets back together and everyone is happy.
