- Exposition: A Million Dreams

- The story follows a person named P. T. Barnum, a poor boy who has a limitless imagination. He also has a crush on a girl named Charity. Charity's parents are very wealthy, so they don't like Barnum. Charity runs away with him anyway and they get married.
- Climax: Never Enough
- Never enough, never, never...
- Barnum then gets the idea to start a show staring 'freaks' after seeing an abnormally short man. One of these individuals is a bearded lady named Lettie. She becomes a major character later in the film. The first show is a hit, but a lot of people still hate them.
- Falling Action: From Now On
- After the first couple shows, they got a letter from England. It said that the queen of England was interested in their show, so she asked if she could see it live in her castle. The gang said yes, so they traveled by boat and had an amazing show. During a party, Barnum didn't let the performers in. So, they snuck in and started singing this song.
- Resolution: The Greatest Show
- Before 'This is Me', Barnum met a woman named Jenny Lind. She is an an incredible singer, and she asked him to introduce her in her next show. He agrees, and while he's watching, you could see a spark in his eyes. At the end, during the eruption of applause, she looks at him with same spark. During one of her other shows, she kisses him. When he gets home, he doesn't tell Charity even though he should.
- While Barnum was gone, Phillip Carlyle, a co-manager, gets into a fight with some people. One of them starts a fire inside the building. Just as Barnum sees his family, he hears someone say, "The circus is on fire!". The building falls into a pile of rubble. All of the performers find Barnum in a bar. He's all sad, but they tell him it's not his fault. Then he realizes he made the circus for his family, not for entertainment. He bolts out of the bar and runs to Charity, hopping trains even. He will not stop until he found Charity.
- From now on!
- He apologizes to Charity, and she accepts it. But, where are they going to do their shows? Well, Barnum gets the idea to have their shows in a gigantic tent. The idea is approved b y the other performers
