- In Springfield, Massachusetts 1891, James Naismith invented an indoor game that was originally played between football and baseball seasons, basketball was born.
- When this sport was invented, there was no actual equipment or supplies you could actually use due to basketball just being invented, so they made "hoops" . They were just peach baskets and backboards made of wire.
- Louis 1904 Olympic Games, when the competition counted as an event of the American basketball championship, with only American teams taking part. A few years later, in 1936, basketball became an official Olympic sport at the Berlin Games.
- As the game of basketball evolved, it became more and more competitive and rules started to form . There are originally 13 rules of basketball.The ball can be thrown in any direction with one or both hands, no player can run with the ball or else it will be called a "travel". The ball must be held in or between the hands; the arms or body cannot hold it.
- no shouldering,holding, pushing,tripping, or striking in any way the person of an opponent shall be allowed; the first infringement of this rule by any player shall count as a foul. A point is counted as when the ball is thrown or batted from the grounds into the basket and stays there, providing those defending the goal do not touch or disturb the goal.The side with the most points will be declared the winner.
- But I think I would be interested in playing in the "ancient" version of basketball. The referees nowadays have such bad calls and the players don't care about their team. It's all about the highlights or how many three's they can make in a game. While that being said, I do like how the modern version is played too, it's very fun and fast and is an amazing way to stay in good health.
- As basketball evolved, only two women ACTUALLY made it to the NBA before the WNBA was established on April 24, 1996. Which is now a very controversial topic because the women don't get paid nearly as much as the men do.While we're on the topic, I actually play basketball myself as a young girl. It's so much fun and a lot of people enjoy watching women play basketball.
- As time went on and basketball started getting more popular, the sport is now played for exercise purposes and is also played by men and women professionally.
