- Ponyboy is a 14 year old greaser. He has 2 brothers who are also greasers. and he likes watching movies and reading books. The book is told from his perspective.
- The Church on Fire
- Johnny is the puppy of the greasers. He's skeptical especially after getting jumped by the Socs.
- Johnny in the Hospital
- Bob is one of the Socs. He's kind of the ringleader of the group. He used to be Cherry's boyfriend. His goal was to find someone to say no to him.
- Johnny's Letter
- Ponyboy and Johnny leave and go with Dally, and then they come back to discover the church caught on fire.
- Johnny is hospitalized after he and Pony saved the kids from the fire and the church collapsed on him.
- Ponyboy finally picks up the copy of Gone With the WInd that Johnny gave him. He finds a note in it.
