- EXPOSITION
- "He’s down at the lake taking the boats out of the water. He said he’d be back in half an hour."
- "Everything is packed Judson. Hasn’t Alec come to turn the water off and get the keys?"
- CONFLICT
- “You’re wrong, my dear. I’m not taking anything out of this bottle. I’m only putting something into it. Whoever broke into my closet last winter and stole my liquor will probably try it again once we are out of here, only this time he’ll wish he hadn’t."
- "Judson! You’re not taking a drink at ten o’clock in the morning, are you?”
- “What are they?” she asked, “something to make him sick?”
- RISING ACTION
- “I’ll walk down the road and say goodbye at the farmhouse, you can pick me up there."
- I'll go tell Alec's wife. Someone has to know!
- "Okay, my dear. And don’t worry about your poor little burglar. No one is going to get hurt who hasn’t got it coming to him."
- On a nice october day Judson Webb was standing in shock as he looked inside his liquor cabinet that was filled with guns, ammunition, fishing rods, and liquor. He saw one opened bottle and now he has a plan for the person who drank from it. Mabel Webb(Judson's wife) was packing for their trip back to the city and Alec(a neighbor) was coming to watch over the house.
- CLIMAX
- Since Judson and Mabel are leaving for the city, he thinks that the person who came last time is going to come again. He poisons the drink with Rat Poisoning so that the person who comes back will die. Mabel doesn't agree with the plan. This is person vs person because Judson is fighting with another person(Alec).
- FALLING ACTION
- “It wasn’t much of a fall, Mr. Webb. You aren’t cut none; just knocked out for a minute."
- Mabel needs to tell someone what Judson is up too so she goes and tells Alec's wife. While Mabel does that Judson continues with his plan.
- CONFLICT
- "Here, take this. It’ll pull you together.”
- When Judson was in his closet he remembered that his boots were on the porch and he wanted them to be in the closet. As he went outside to get his boots he slipped on an acorn that was left by a squirrel and hit his head on the table. He was unconscious.
- After Judson struck his his head on the table Alec( a neighbor) who came to watch over the house while the city folks were away found Judson on the ground unconscious. He put his arm around Judson's head.
- Alec took a drink from the cabinet thinking that it will help Judson regain conscious. As Judson was half-conscious, he drank from the whiskey bottle.
