Myth of Oedipus

- Oedipus is Supposed to be killed
- Oedipus leaves for Thebes
- Oedipus kills his Father
- Oedipus' parents wanted Oedipus to be killed because an oracle told them that he would be the demise to their family by killing his dad and marrying his mother. The servant could not kill the innocent child so he gave him to another family.
- Oedipus and the Sphinx
- Oedipus is told by an Oracle same his dad was told so to prevent this from happening he fled Corinth for Thebes.
- Oedipus Marries His Mom
- On his journey to Thebes Oedipus runs into a chariot and he and the man in the chariot get into a fight and Oedipus ends up killing him in self defense not knowing it was his dad
- The Prophecy was true
- When Oedipus reaches Thebes, there is a sphinx at the gate of the city and you must answer its riddle correctly or you die. Oedipus being as brave as he is stood up to the challenge and answered correctly and the the sphinx jumped off of a cliff and Oedipus entered Thebes.
- Since Oedipus defeated the sphinx he got to marry the Queen of Thebes. Sadly the Queen of Thebes was his Mother so when they got married the Oracle's vision came true. Together they have 4 children.
- Realizing the Oracle was right, Oedipus gouges both of his eyes out and exiles in the desert with his daughters where he eventually dies
