- I'm sorry but Herbert is dead. For compensation for his hard work you get 200 pounds.

- Characters are introduced. Mr. White and Herbert are playing chess while Mrs. White is knitting.
- Falling Action
- I wish for Herbert to come back to life.
- Sergeant-Major Morris comes in with a monkey's paw and tells the family about it. The family gets the paw and makes a wish for 200 pounds to pay off their mortgage.
- Resolution
- I wish for Herbert to disappear.
- The consequence for wishing for 200 pounds was Herbert death and for compensation from the company the family was awarded 200 pounds.
- NO! Herbert my sweet boy!
- After grief from the family Mrs. White forces Mr. White to make Herbert come back to life while Mr. White is very hesitant.
- WISH HERBERT BACK!!
- Mr. White wishes for Herbert to disappear after they wish him back because he was trying to break into the house and the family was worried.
