- The Friar's tale is the 7th story in the Canterbury Tales.
- Climax
- The summoner is on his way to extort money from a widow. He plans to trick her.
- Falling Action
- The yeoman tells the summoner that he is actually a demon after they had exchanged their secrets of their respective trades and swore brotherhood. They make a vow to share what they get.
- Resolution
- They come upon a carter whose horses got temporarily stuck. Frustrated, he says the demon can take the horses.
- The Summoner claims he will do better than the demon. He also demands the widow to give him a new pan in payment for old debt falsely claiming he paid a fine to get her off a charge for adultery. Enraged, the woman curses the summoner to hell unless he repents his false charges.
- The summoner doesn't have any tenancy to repent so the demon takes the summoners body and soul to hell.
